Focus Forward for Indigenous Youth is grateful to work with Indigenous communities located across Turtle Island on projects taking place on their traditional homelands and Treaty territories.

We recognize that our team members live and work on Indigenous territories across the country, which are now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

OUR MISSION

Focus Forward for Indigenous Youth's mission can best be described from the perspective of one of our past program participants:

teamwork

It’s about bringing awareness for Aboriginal students in knowing their own abilities and their own self-confidence.

A lot of schools don’t have that option to go out and build another piece of their school or even their community…

So that’s something special about our community and something we don’t always have available but it’s new and it’s special for us.

In our own words, Focus Forward’s mission is to collaborate with Indigenous communities across Canada, empowering youth through locally developed trades-based education to strengthen Individuals’ and communities’ futures.

Through our acknowledgment and appreciation of the practices and spiritualties that continue to be tied to the land today, we help students cultivate leadership skills, work ethic, and a sense of confidence that will help them focus forward on a positive and engaged future.

In the end, our programs are about creating a positive impact that will carry forward for generations.

I wanted to participate in the greenhouse build because I think it would be a fun experience.

In the future when I have kids of my own, I can tell them I helped build the greenhouse beside the high school.
